Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Plans Examiner II & Senior – Building/Fire.
The Plans Examiner II & Senior positions report to the Plan Review Supervisor. The primary function of these positions is to conduct reviews and analyses of residential, commercial, and industrial land development projects, as well as assist in projects from permit application to final inspection. These positions conduct plan reviews, makes field visits, and reviews applications and related documents to ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and ordinances while providing information and technical assistance to internal and external customers.
This position is currently on a 4/10 work schedule. Offices are closed on Fridays. This position has the potential to work remotely although some office and site visits will be required.
First review of applications will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2024, then every other Thursday thereafter while the posting is open.

Plans Examiner II Fire/Building candidates must possess the following requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
At least one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in a related field, such as building construction, engineering, environmental, architecture, blueprint reading, electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing.
3-4 years working experience within a building and planning environment.
Fire Plan Review experience preferred.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job classification.
Two (2) ICC certifications, one of which must be from the Building or Fire Plans Examiner category. The second may be from the residential or commercial, plan review, or inspection category.
Valid Driver's License.
The Pay range for a Plans Examiner II is $30.32 -$45.48.
Plans Examiner Sr. Fire/Building candidates must possess the following requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in Building Construction, Engineering, Fire Science, Environmental, Architecture, Blueprint Reading, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing.
4-5 years of experience within a building, engineering, or planning environment using computer aided or pencil drafted construction drawing, distributing, and organizing construction plans and documents, inspecting construction sites, reviewing construction drawings, and providing guidance and approval of construction projects within government and/or consultant office.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job classification.
Three (3) ICC Certifications, one of the three must be a Commercial Building Plans Examiner Certification.
Fire Plan Review experience preferred but not required.
Experience with plan review, management, and inspection software.
Valid Driver’s License.
The Pay range for a Plans Examiner Senior is $32.99 - $49.99.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Knowledge of landscape and irrigation design principles, planning and zoning principles, construction terminology, and spatial and mathematical concepts.
Skill in computer-aided and/or pencil-drafted construction drawing, reading, and interpreting written materials and technical drawings, reviewing construction drawings for quality and content, and conducting site inspections.
Reviewing and analyzing planning documents.
Preparing and presenting reports, correspondence, maps, studies, and related items.
Conducting site inspections.
Excellent communication skills for corresponding with internal and external customers.
Plans Examiner II & Senior levels are At-Will positions and are FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.
