The Integrative Nutritionist works in the field of integrative health and medicine which reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals and professions to achieve optimal health and healing. Simply put, integrative health and medicine offer best practices for optimal health and healing. The Nutritionist will assist our guests and team members in finding new ways to inspire healthier eating habits. The position will work closely with our guests and team members in promoting wellness and helping individuals realize their personal best. The Nutritionist will be responsible for developing a relationship with guests and team members and assisting them through the process of actively working towards better nutrition and health by providing support, encouragement, and education.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Integrative Nutritionist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Provide integrative functional medical nutrition therapy, food hypersensitivity evaluations with diet modifications, mindful eating guidance, and dietary supplement consultations based on individual client needs.

  • Nutrition assessments, reassessments and care plans are completed to meet each client's identified needs.

  • Nutritional care plans are reassessed and changes are recommended when necessary.

  • Collaborates with client care staff and team members.

  • Nutrition education/counseling is provided to clients and/or family members in an effective and professional manner. This is based upon the identified learning needs, in a manner that the clients and/or family members can demonstrate their understanding.

  • Each client's readiness to learn and education needs are incorporated into the nutrition assessment.

  • Comprehension of integrative nutrition principles are measured and documented.

  • Educational materials provided to clients/families as appropriate to their needs.

  • Documentation: Integrative nutrition therapy provided to clients/family is documented in accordance with company policy in 100% of the records reviewed.

  • Staff Educatio Actively participates in the training and education of client care staff and practice staff.

  • Provides classes/workshops on pertinent topics to promote integrative nutrition.

  • Practice good customer relations: displaying a caring, courteous and respectful attitude to all clients and family members.

  • Interacts with practice and provider staff in a timely and professional manner.

  • Completes data collection for performance improvement activities as assigned.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of changes in practice as a result of performance improvement outcomes.

  • Participate in the identification and implementation of research to further elucidate the current therapeutic approaches.

  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Master's Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.

  • A minimum of 3 years of Clinical experience in the practice of integrative/functional nutrition.

  • Demonstrates excellent nutrition assessment skills, able to design an individualized nutrition plan for a client, has a good understanding of age and cultural diversity.

  • A good understanding of holistic healthcare and integrative medicine.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
