Community Educator – Prevention Council

Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently seeking a 24 hrs per week (benefits eligible) Community Educator within the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Council. This is a hybrid position working out of your home, the Bangor office, and out in the community settings.

Location: Bangor, Maine

24 hrs per week (benefits eligible) with the ability at times for additional hours.

Community Educator Responsibilities:

• Develop plans to implement priority components of parent education curriculum throughout Penobscot county.

• Assist in the planning and implementation of community committee meetings.

• Provide relevant professional trainings to childcare providers and community partners.

• Connect families to needed resources and services in their communities.

• Increase community awareness around strengthening families through various community activities.

• Build community relationships with local agencies that provide services to targeted youth and families.

• Attend events where outreach is needed (health fairs, school orientation events, etc.)

Community Educator Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, or related field.

• Previous work experience with children and families and experience facilitating groups strongly desired.

• Ability to work a flexible work schedule to include evenings and some weekends.

• Knowledge of area resources for families.

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Must have a valid State of Maine driver’s license in good standing and reliable insured transportation.

• Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.

The starting rate of pay for the Community Educator position is $18.80 per hour and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
