Summary:

The Psychiatric Registered Nurse Educator is an experienced Psychiatric Nurse who is responsible for assisting with the development and facilitation of educational programs and orientation of nursing personnel within their scope of practice. They work closely with interdisciplinary colleagues to develop and manage evidence-based programs. The Psychiatric Registered Nurse Educator is accountable for developing, maintaining, and assessing competency requirements that support professional excellence for nursing personnel. They assist in the development and maintenance of departmental directives that relate to nursing care. This nurse can competently adapt all educational programs to meet the unique needs the individual learner. This nurse is recognized by others as a leader and provides mentorship to employees. They are adept at negotiating conflict, collaborating with others, and applying self-reflection to their practice. They are skilled in both administrative and leadership skills and understand quality improvement processes. The Psychiatric Registered Nurse Educator may perform other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Manager within their scope of practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Meets service and program educational needs through collaborative problem solving and planning

  • Assists in developing and maintaining a competency based orientation program for nursing personnel

  • Identifies and evaluates employee learning needs and develops and facilitates educational opportunities to meet these needs.

  • Assists with outreach education

  • Evaluates educational program effectiveness

  • Assists in developing and facilitating unit based and hospital wide quality improvement initiatives

  • Assists in ensuring nursing documentation meets all organizational, regulatory, licensing, and professional standards through chart review and employee education

  • Assists in ensuring that nursing staff maintain certification and competencies to perform required job descriptions

  • Works with direct care staff and leaders to identify quality indicators, working to evaluate and incorporate evidenced based and innovative interventions to target goals.

  • Is a role model for others regarding professional nursing work habits (punctual, minimal absenteeism, managing conflict, respectful communication, flexibility)

  • Makes frequent rounds on inpatient unit to assess milieu, patient and staffing needs and concerns, and responds appropriately.

  • Networks with peers at institutional, local, state, regional and national level to promote personal, professional, and organizational goals.

  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and high-quality standards in all aspects of clinical work

  • 3+ years of relative work experience required, 3 or more years of clinical experience

Credentials

  • Required Registered Nurse

  • Will be expected to become a MOAB instructor after hire

Education

  • Required Associate's Degree, Bachelors preferred
